Today you can buy Poly Si (15.5% efficiency and up), that uses only 1/2 the real estate compared to thin film, at south of $2.50/Wp for larger projects, again thanks to China mfr. Why would anyone buy thin film if Poly Si is at the same price?

Even the worst UMG Si (prob. 12% TODay) still has much higher efficiency than thin film. Given the China price syndrome, we'd see Sub-$2/Wp retail by 2010. Maybe that's why so many canceled their expensive thin film machinery orders.

Why are we still assuming $3/Wp for panels? If the UMG boys (mostly in China) get their acts together, the production cost is going to be less than $1/Wp. That in itself is perhaps not very remarkable, until you look at the very low equipment cost.
