Taiwan ICT industry players are increasingly investing resources to the Internet of Things (IoT) industry, developing smart solutions to optimize efficiency and solving problems. However in the IoT world, devices are no longer the key success factor, but the add-on services and smart applications are bringing people the real change. In order to meet the needs of the high complexity market, the game rule had been changed. No matter which part of the business opportunities has been digging on, it is no question that the volume manufacturing models had been taken places by low volume high mix models. Versatility and adaptability is key to survive in the era of IoT.

Microsoft had collaborated with Taiwan hardware manufacturers in the past to help Taiwan electronics industry built global leadership in Personal Computer sector. The strong and close relationship is ready to enable partners to plug in to IoT with resourceful support, since the value chain in IoT area is pretty complex and the business mode also reshaping day by day. Also, it is a long way to integrate all the partners from hardware, software and service. The cross disciplinary needed business requires different experts to work together to bring in innovations.

Integration is the key to success in IoT filed, for assisting Taiwan IoT ecosystems to enlarge their possibility and go international, Microsoft leverages its experience on partner network building, will plan and host "Microsoft IoT Expo 2016" event at Hua Nan Bank International Conference Center on October 13th to 14th. In addition, unlike the well known WINHEC conference in engineering community, this two-day event is the first time hosted by Microsoft headquarters focusing on broad collaboration of IoT ecosystems and co-development of new innovative solutions and services between all the organizations. And the most important thing, through this event, Microsoft will build bridges by arranging match-making meetings to give Taiwan ecosystems real opportunities to meet business partners from global.

Focus on showcasing global IoT solutions, building partnerships and match-making to creating business opportunities

Founded in 2016, Microsoft opened IoT innovation center in Taiwan. This is the first IoT R & D center outside the United States. This is an unprecedented investment from Microsoft engineering for IoT. However, the IoT solutions are tightly integrated with the each level of the industrial ecosystems. Using Microsoft cloud-based machine learning, automatic data analysis and predictive analytics technologies to connect all sorts of electronics devices and sensors, Microsoft will speed up the development of cross-platform, cross-country and cross-industry IoT solutions for Taiwan ecosystems to adapt different needs in various application fields.

Cathy Yeh, who served as Principle PM Manager of Microsoft IoT innovation Center for the Cloud and Enterprise Group, recently spoke about the company's IoT solution Expo event in a recent interview. There are two major driving forces to lead Microsoft to host the event of "Microsoft IoT Expo 2016". The first is bringing together Taiwan domestic and international solution providers to present or showcase solutions co-developed and enabled by Microsoft technologies. And the second, it could help IoT businesses achieve more by match-making meetings and activities.

Taiwan ICT industries are concentrating to be design and manufacturing expertise as it scales globally for years. In the other hand, most Taiwan ICT manufacturers are lacking the investments of time and resource to deeply study and realize the needs of end customers, Yeh observed. Taiwan makers could run pioneer engineering projects and develop sophisticated manufacturing process smoothly but less domain knowledge of consumer behaviors and experience. In order to assist Taiwan IoT ecosystems, Microsoft sets the cross regions of Asia and America strategy for exploring what's going on in the real world and stepping backward to work out how solution makers can pursue the market opportunities identified. And this is why "Microsoft IoT Expo 2016" to be held in Taiwan.

Microsoft invites customers or partners around the world to participate the event. Through sharing and demonstrating the solutions, Microsoft is hoping to bring global market insights and gain the business opportunities for Taiwan IoT ecosystems.

MIT Media Lab as a core sponsor to demonstrate PEV

Microsoft invites MIT Media Lab as one of the major sponsors for this event. Professor Kent Larson, director of MIT Changing Places research group, will give his keynote speech in the session related to Smart City and urban interventions development. One of the highlights is the Persuasive Electric Vehicle (PEV), which is a collaborative project in Taipei. It is an ultra-lightweight, shared-use, autonomous, lithium battery-powered tricycle platform, which is co-developed with Microsoft's Cognitive Services and designed to move both people and goods in high population cities. This is also a significant step forward in establishing Taiwan industries as a leading global provider of smart transportation solutions.

Leverage Microsoft's Cognitive Services, PEV will allow sensor devices to sense environments and respond accordingly. Eventually, they'll use that information to improve personal transportation systems with intuitive interactions that personalize our experiences and extend our abilities in everyday life. The unique feature of this concept is that it enables a continuum of technologies to be incorporated into IoT, machine learning and big data analytics.

Promoting Female power in IoT and expecting the change of IoT world

The number of women in engineering and design works are relatively fewer than male professional engineers. Over time, Yeh talks her career in the engineering fields to see this pattern. But the requirements of design for family have been highly addressed by IoT developers. Woman consumers contribute massive time and money on this subject especially implemented innovative IoT applications for parenthood assistance to take care of children. That's the key reason in this IoT Expo event why Microsoft underpins this topic in the session to explore more female ideas leveraging women characteristics of more sensitive, inclusive and human-touched. This session is aiming to provide the discussion directions of "BUILD FOR HER" and "YOU CAN BUILD" to encourage women to participate the IoT industries.

Yeh welcomes guests to visit Hua Nan Bank International Conference Center to jointly explore this two-day event featuring keynotes, industry expert breakout sessions, IoT solution center showcase and match-making meetings. Participants will have the opportunity to gain market insights and recruit partners for shared business possibilities to create the next generation of intelligence applications.
