Digitimes Research: OLED TV pricing to remain double Ultra HD TV pricing through 2016; China vendors see mixed results in LCD TV sales abroad

Tony Huang, DIGITIMES Research, Taipei

OLED TV pricing is expected to remain double that of Ultra HD TVs through 2016, which will influence the 120% on-year expected growth in Ultra HD TV shipments in 2015, according to Digitimes Research.

More than half of the Ultra HD TVs shipped throughout 2016 are expected to go to the China market where low-priced units will drive most of the demand.

Ultra HD TV panel shipments meanwhile are expected to reach 17.83 million units in 2014, up 475% on year, according to Digitimes Research.

The average of panel sizes shipped in 2014 are estimated at 50.8-inch of Ultra HD TV and 39.8-inch for LCD TV.

Taiwan makers have been responsible for most Ultra HD TV panel shipments in the past but Samsung Display and LG Display are expected to hold an almost 40% share in 2014.

Digitimes Research also noted that LCD TV sales in China reached 974,000 in September 2014, down 10.7% on year.

In terms of local vendors, sales in markets outside of China vary. TCL saw a 9.3% decline in September at 672,000 while Skyworth saw an on-year increase of 36% to 344,000 units.
