Swancor Renewable Energy has disclosed it has partnered with Tien Li Offshore Wind Technology, Yeong Guan Energy Technology and J&V Energy Technology to form a Taiwan team for developing Formosa 4 and Formosa 5, two offshore wind farms in central Taiwan.
Swancor has participated in the development of Formosa 1, an offshore wind farm with 108MW in installation capacity that has been completed, and in Formosa 2 with 376MW that is still being constructed. Swancor in September 2020 proposed the Formosa 4 and Formosa 5 projects with total installation capacity of 4.4GW.
Taiwan-based companies have been playing a major role in the supply chain for local offshore wind farm projects, and Swancor's Tawian team is intended to integrate local developers, supply chain makers and supporting service providers, Swancor CEO Lucas Lin said.
Tien Li produces blades of offshore wind turbines through cooperation with Denmark-based MHI Vesta Offshore Wind and has invested NT$3.0 billion (US$107 million) to set up a production base near Taichung Harbor.
Yeong Guan produces castings used in 750KW offshore wind turbines and has developed castings for use in 14MW turbines.
J&V Energy is engaged in development of PV power-generating projects and stepped into development of offshore wind farms in 2020.
