Abstract

The global top-5 notebook brands, not including Apple, saw their combined shipments slip around 30% from a month ago in April because of a high comparison base in March hiked by the brands' robust short-term orders.

A lack of confidence in end demand and the fact that the retail channel still had a high inventory level at the time also dampened the brands' order pull-ins in April.

Lenovo retook the largest-brand-worldwide title in April as the original leader Hewlett-Packard (HP) was unable to keep up its order momentum from Chromebooks and inexpensive consumer models, the growth drivers of the US-based brand in March.
