HP introduces mini-notebook for educational market

Press release, April 8; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES Asia 1

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has introduced a full-function, mini-notebook PC – the HP 2133 for the educational market.

At slightly more than 2.5-pounds, the mini is smaller and lighter than many math or science books, pointed out HP. It includes a suite of wireless, multimedia and security capabilities to allow students to learn everywhere they go.

The mini is packed with a combination of features to boost productivity and improve the overall mobile experience, including: HP DuraKeys, featuring a clear coating applied over the notebook keyboard that protects the finish and printed letters and characters and an HP 3D DriveGuard, which sends a signal to shut down the hard drive upon sudden movement or shock by using a three-axis digital accelerometer chip.

The mini also features a 8.9-inch diagonal WXGA display and full keyboard and touchpad, while it also provides wireless technologies such as integrated Wi-Fi certified WLAN and optional Bluetooth.

The HP 2133 mini-note PC starts at US$499 and is expected to be available later this month.
