Press release, November 10; Yvonne Yu, DIGITIMES Asia

Seoul, Korea (Nov 9, 2010) - LG Display, a leading innovator of TFT-LCD technology, today announced that it will showcase a diverse lineup of its latest, cutting-edge display technologies at Flat Panel Display (FPD) International taking place from November 10-12 in Chiba, Japan.

The company plans to unveil next-generation display technologies that demonstrate the endless possibilities of displays, under the themes such as public display, 3D, touch and next-generation technologies.

Public displays: Display for information/ads

LG Display will reveal an LCD panel for public displays featuring the world's narrowest bezel. The public display panel will be shown in a 111-inch multi-vision format featuring nine 37-inch panels. The boarder (bezel) is just 4mm between panels, enabling natural-looking images and the freedom to change the shape and form of public displays.

In addition, the company plans to showcase a 55-inch LED backlit LCD panel boasting 2000 nit brightness (approximately four times brighter than conventional TVs) for superior visibility in outdoor settings and other eye-catching public displays such as a 72-inch public display panel.

3D displays

LG Display will unleash a full lineup of 3D panels that employ polarized glasses. The advantages of this method of 3D displays are lightweight glasses and less eyestrain compared to displays using shutter glasses due to greatly reduced crosstalk, the blurry, ghosting image effect. LG Display also plans to reveal a Full HD 47-inch TV LCD panel that will soon be mass produced and a 23-inch IPS LCD panel for monitors.

Other highlights include an 84-inch Ultra High Definition (UHD 3840×2160) 3D panel, four times higher resolution than Full HD (1920×1080), a 47-inch non glasses 3D panel, and a 31-inch OLED 3D panel for TVs using polarized glasses.

Touch technology

In the 'Touch' zone, LG Display will present an on-cell type 13.3-inch LCD panel for notebook PCs that can recognize two touch points simultaneously due to the application of an embedded capacitive touch screen and a 21.5-inch monitor LCD panel based on the optical touch method using infrared sensor.

Another attraction will be a 15.6-inch touch screen panel for notebooks using add-on capacitive method. It is the world's first, mass-produced LCD panel with embedded touch function.

Next-generation technology

LG Display will show a wide range of next-generation products at FPD International Japan 2010. One such product is the advanced 47-inch window TV that can be used as a regular window glass and as a transparent display with a mere touch. The panel can not only be used as a "smart window" with its brightness control function for sunlight, but can also be utilized as TV screen. The panel can be used in the darkness during the night time by using its LED backlight embedded. Also its touch function(optical touch method using infrared sensor) enables the display to appear like an ordinary window with the button-less design.

Another state-of-the-art product is the 9.7-inch e-paper which can realize both black & white and color images. There will be the world's thinnest TV LCD, measuring just 2.6mm thick, is also expected to attract the attention of visitors.

FPD International Japan 2010 will take place November 10-12 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba . On the opening day, LG Display's VP, the head of panel performance department, Mike Jun will deliver a keynote address titled "New values for display."
