Several Taiwan-based ICT makers and associations will participate in establishing Taiwan Advanced Automotive Technology Development Association (TADA) soon, according to the initiator Frank Huang, chairman for wafer foundry service provider Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing.

The makers include AU Optronics (AUO), Pegatron and Powerchip Technology, while the associations include Taiwan Telematics Industry Association, Taiwan IoT Technology and Industry Association and Taipei Computer Association (TCA).

Taiwan-based ICT makers stand a good chance of stepping into development and production of electric vehicles (EV) based on their strong R&D and manufacturing capabilities as well as support by Taiwan's semiconductor supply chains, Huang said.

TADA aims to help ICT makers enter international EV supply chains through setting up cross-industry cooperation platforms to facilitate them to develop and integrate products and technologies concerning EVs, Huang noted.

TADA will collect information on international advanced technical standards concerning EVs for ICT makers. Besides, TADA will hold activities to let ICT makers understand the car ecosystem and let automakers understand how Taiwan's ICT and semiconductor strength can be helpful for EV R&D.
