The global top-5 notebook brands, not including Apple, saw their combined shipments slip around 30% from a month ago in April because a high comparison base in March hiked by the brands' robust short-term orders, according to DIGITIMES Research's latest notebook shipment figures from the April update report.
A lack of confidence in end demand and the fact that the retail channel still had a high inventory level at the time also dampened the brands' order pull-ins in April.
Lenovo retook the largest-brand-worldwide title in April as the original leader Hewlett-Packard (HP) was unable to keep up its order momentum from Chromebooks and inexpensive consumer models, the growth drivers of the US-based brand in March, the report's figures show.
Dell had a smaller on-month shipment decline than HP and Lenovo in April thanks to stabilizing shipments for existing enterprise models and volume shipments of new enterprise notebooks.
The top-3 ODMs together experienced an on-month shipment decline of 23% in April. Wistron had the least drop among the three because of Dell's increased orders.
