According to the latest released data from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) the first half of China's ICT manufacturing industry achieved a total revenue of CNY6.78 trillion (US$1.05 trillion), a decrease of 4.2% compared to the same period last year.
In the same period, the production of mobile phones was 686 million units, a decrease of 3.1% compared to the same period last year, with smartphone production reaching 507 million units, a decline of 9.1%. The production of microcomputers was 162 million units, down by 25%, and the production of ICs was 165.7 billion units, down by 3%.
When it comes to exports, in the first half of 2023, the export value of China's ICT manufacturing industry decreased by 9.2% year on year. The decline was 0.9 percentage points further than that of the January to May period, and 4.4 percentage points further than the overall industrial decline. In June, the export value of the ICT manufacturing industry above a certain scale decreased by 13.1% year on year.
According to customs statistics, in the first half of 2023, China exported 67.19 million laptops, a decrease of 23.9% compared to the same period last year; 351 million mobile phones, a decrease of 13.5%; and 127.6 billion ICs, a decrease of 10%.
In terms of profitability, in the first half of the year, the ICT manufacturing industry achieved a total revenue of CNY6.78 trillion, a decrease of 4.2%, which was consistent with the decline from January to May. Operating costs amounted to CNY5.93 trillion, down 3.5% year on year. The total profit reached CNY241.8 billion (US$33.7 billion), a decrease of 25.2% compared to the same period last year, with a 24-percentage-point narrowing of the decline compared to the January to May period. The operating income profit margin was 3.6%, an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to the January to May period.
