The number of Apple suppliers in India stopped growing over the past year, as the company is looking to get more Indian suppliers on board.
Apple supplier base in India in transformation than in expansion stage
Due to India's expected continuation of policies limiting Chinese investments and Apple's search for more local Indian suppliers, Apple's supply chain in India is transitioning from being dominated by Taiwan and China to a more diversified source base. In terms of quantity, although the number of Apple's suppliers and manufacturing facilities in India has temporarily ceased to grow, it is expected to enter a high-growth phase in the coming years.
Cadence says core EDA and IP domains are its India R&D center's focus
Alok Jain, Corporate VP of R&D at Cadence Design Systems, recently spoke with DIGITIMES Asia about the company's operations in India. He highlighted that their R&D in India focuses on key areas like Digital Design, Custom IC design, Packaging and PCB, System Verification, and IP. Jain also mentioned India's role in their system innovation, especially in 3D IC and high-speed RF designs. Additionally, Cadence is investing in Pervasive Intelligence, incorporating AI and machine learning into their products.
BYD reportedly not eligible for Indian EV policy
India introduced an EV policy in March to attract global investments, but it ties discounted import duties to specific investment commitments. Chinese companies, including BYD, might miss out on these benefits because India's current FDI policy demands prior approval for investments. Consequently, Chinese EV projects may not qualify for the reduced import duties on EVs in India, reports Money Control.
Dixon to partner with Longcheer in making smartphones in India
According to a corporate filing to the BSE and the National Stock Exchange of India, Padget Electronics, a subsidiary of Dixon Technologies, entered into an agreement with Longcheer Mobile India Private Limited to manufacture and sell smartphones for large global brands with Longcheer's design and technology.

According to Canalys, smartphone shipments reached 35.3 million in the first quarter of 2024, marking a 15% increase compared to a year ago.
