The global top-5 brands saw expanded on-year shrinkage in their combined notebook shipments in July with the market in a temporary downturn.
Abstract

Due to the weakening of North American education procurement orders and some companies having shipped in advance during the second quarter, total shipments by the global top five brands in July decreased by 28% month-on-month and declined by 7% compared to the same month in 2023, indicating a potentially sluggish notebook market,

In July, among the top five notebook brands, Lenovo, the leader, saw weakened shipments in both the Chinese market and the education market, with shipments decreasing by nearly 30% month-on-month. Hewlett-Packard's (HP) shipment momentum was temporarily impacted by its ODMs expanding their production line relocation outside of China. Dell, on the other hand, performed better than Lenovo and HP due to a lower base in the previous month.

The top three ODMs saw a combined 19% month-on-month decrease in notebook shipments in July. Wistron experienced a less severe decline compared to Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics, as it received increased orders from Dell.
