The war between Ukraine and Russia has not yet ended, but the situation in the Middle East has stabilized, with no further increase in regional political and economic risks. With global demand gradually warming up, DIGITIMES Research found that overall smartphone shipments worldwide in the third quarter of 2024 reached 297.6 million units, marking a year-on-year growth of 5.2%.
However, due to the high comparison base in the same period of 2023, the year-on-year growth for the fourth quarter of 2024 is projected to be only 0.2%.
Compared to the estimate made in August, DIGITIMES Research has adjusted the forecast for global smartphone shipments in 2024 to 1.1861 billion units, adding 4.7 million units from before. The upward revision is primarily due to Apple's and Vivo's third-quarter shipments exceeding initial expectations, as well as some Chinese brands likely outperforming their original annual shipment estimates.
