Suppliers of uninterruptible power supply (UPS), battery management systems (BMS), cooling and storage solutions are expected to see their shipments grow along with cloud computing datacenter operators' orders for servers in 2021, according to sources from the server supply chain.
With emerging applications such as 5G, AIoT, AI and big data continue to generate massive volumes of data, cloud computing datacenters' demand for servers will pick up and boost global server shipments. According to Digitimes Research's latest data, global server shipments for 2021 are expected to rise 5.6% on year to come close to 17 million units.
Datacenter equipment provider Vertiv pointed out that air cooling management solutions have continued to see increasing demand from datacenter operators, but such solutions are only suitable for rack systems with 10kW+ density. To satisfy growing demand for rack systems with high-density configurations, orders for liquid cooling solutions have been rising gradually.
Vertiv, citing figures from Omdia, pointed out that the datacenter cooling management solution market will see its scale rise to US$4.3 billion in 2024, up from 2020's US$3.3 billion with technologies of direct expansion (DX), ice water and evaporation cooling being the mainstream.
For the datacenter UPS market, Eaton and Schneider Electric are expected to enjoy increasing orders and will in turn benefit their battery suppliers.
