Global demand for LCD displays used in various medical purposes spiked in 2020 due to COVID-19, but is expected to shrink sharply in 2021 along with the gradual easing of the pandemic, according to industry sources.

Sigmaintell Consulting noted global demand for medical LCD displays reached 33 million units in 2020, rising 13.8% on year.

Global sales for medical ventilators in 2020 jumped to US$5.45 billion, hiking 154.7% on year, the sources cited Sigmaintell as indicating. There were severe shortages of ventilators last year, but they have begun to relax since fourth-quarter 2020, and global sales for ventilators in 2021 are estimated to fall to US$2.07 billion, the sources noted.

Global sales for medical monitoring devices grew 12.2% to US$3.3 billion in 2020, but the revenues are expected to drop to a normal level in 2021.
