According to research by the United Nations, 68% of the world's population will live in cities by 2050. This trend has prompsted many governments to actively invest in the construction of smart cities that can meet the needs of the public for safety, comfort, and convenience. Thanks to rapid economic growth in recent years, such investment is especially substantial in the burgeoning countries of ASEAN and the South Asian regions, which are recognized as the most vibrant regions for smart city development.
Major developing countries, including Indonesia, India, and Vietnam, are now on paths of economic growth that quite resemble that of Taiwan in its early stages. When building smart cities, these ASEAN and the South Asian countries can readily draw from Taiwan's early experience, from telecommunication infrastructure, such as 4G/5G, Wi-Fi 6, and NB-IoT, to a range of smart applications derived from a solid ICT foundation.
To address such topics, Chunghwa Telecom is working with DIGITIMES to organize an online seminar entitled "Smart City Solutions Day: 5G & Innovative Applications" that will be held from 15:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. Representatives from ASEAN and South Asian countries are more than welcome to attend this seminar, where they will be guided through a complete blueprint on how to build a smart city using such solutions as smart poles and smart transportation.
