LCD chemical material specialist Daxin Materials expects its new plant for semiconductor materials in Taichung to come online in the third quarter of 2022, and it is planning for another manufacturing site as well, according to company chairman Lin Cheng-Yih.
Lin said the new semiconductor materials plant will mainly supply Daxin's clients in Taiwan, particularly in Hsinchu and Tainan. While the company has begun planning for another manufacturing site, its scale and location have not been determined, he explained.
With researchers accounting for half of the company staff, Daxin will continue its research on the development of LCD materials and intermediate materials such as high-purified rinsing liquid and specialty removers. It will also allocate over 50% of its research investment in semiconductors and key raw materials.
While semiconductor materials account for only 1-2% of Daxin's total revenues in 2021, the company expects the share to rise gradually following volume production at its Taichung plant in the third quarter of 2022. The mass production plan was pushed back slightly due to a longer lead time on semiconductor equipment this year.
Daxin is optimistic about the growth momentum in its display materials in 2022 and is expecting to meet new clients. It has also been developing materials for microLED displays and foldable smartphones, but they have not entered mass production.
