The purpose of entrepreneurship is to achieve fame and fortune for sure. However, it is difficult to achieve success if the entrepreneur simply pursues a mercenary goal. Instead, strategies that benefit both the enterpreneurs and others can better construct the ecosystem with employees and customers. The upfront capital for DIGITIMES entrepreneurship was funneled in from several indusial leaders whose purpose was not to make profits, but to build a complete information supply and sharing system for Taiwan's ICT industry. Therefore, I often encourage all employees with the idea that "the prosperity of the industry is our common responsibility," which is an "altruistic" thinking.
DIGITIMES has been stepping up efforts gathering information of the ASEAN and South Asian markets. We conducted a comprehensive research on the top 100 enterprises in the Asian supply chain in 2021. After the Lunar New Year holidays earlier this year, we began to collect and publish information concerning the structural changes of the top 100 companies in the Asian automotive and electronics supply chains. Analysis of the changes in the industry cannot be achieved by simply compiling a few articles and posting random comments. Taiwan is no longer a new kid in town. There should be an innovative series of concepts and methodology for information collection.
A multiple of new startups and even industry leaders hope that I can "hit the big time together" and delve into more forward-looking industry information. I am not indifferent to their calls. But as a private media and consulting institution, we position our service as "Late Stage" data collection, analysis and transmission rather than undertake forward-looking technical analysis; otherwise our readership may get relatively narrow once the contents are going "too professional." Reckless moves without a right focus would mitigate the power of a professional media and fall into predicament of accumulated overruns.
As a "start-up company" established 25 years ago, we can barely survive without knowing ourselves and the competition in terms of information collection and transmission. I believe pouring manpower into forward-looking technology trend analysis is indispensable, but we need to keep a dynamic balance between the new services and our existing practice.
We place our focus of research on EVs and semiconductors in 2022. Without grasping the needs of the industry, we are doomed to end up with a big loss.
