There were 343,000 new smartphones sold in Taiwan in August 2022, the lowest monthly level so far in 2022 with decreases of 17.5% on sequentially and 9.5% on year, according to retail channel sources.
Besides impact of inflation on demand for consumer electronics, loyal iPhone users awaiting the launch of the iPhone 14 in September contributed to the August sales decline, the sources said.
The top-10 smartphone models in terms of sales volume in August were iPhone 13 (128GB), Samsung Galaxy A53 5G (8+256GB), Oppo Reno 8, Samsung Galaxy A22 5G (4+64GB), Samsung Galaxy A53 5G (8+128GB), iPhone 13 Pro (128GB), Samsung Galaxy A33 5G (6+128GB), Oppo A57, iPhone 13 Pro (256GB), iPhone 13 Pro Max (256GB).
Samsung occupied 30.8% of the August volume, followed by Apple (26.1%), Oppo (14.3%), Redmi (6.7%), Vivo (5.9%), Realme (3.7%), Sony (2.9%), Asus (2.7%), Google (1.6%) and HTC (1.2%).
In terms of sales value in August, Apple had the largest market share of 42.8%, followed by Samsung with 27.8%, Oppo with 8.8%, Vivo with 3.7%, Sony with 3.5%, Asus with 3.3%, Redmi with 2.5%, ROG with 2.0%, Google with 1.5% and Realme with 1.4%.
Thanks to the availability of the iPhone 14, better-than-expected sales for Samsung foldable devices, and the launch of new phones by other vendors, smartphone sales volume in Taiwan is expected to reach 500,000 units in September, the sources indicated.
