Vietnamese EV startup VinFast said on Feb 18 that it is recalling 2,781 units of sports utility models VF8 in Vietnam to replace loose bolts connecting the front brake, according to Reuters.
The company said the bolt connecting the front caliper to the knuckle may loosen when the vehicle is in operation, potentially reducing the effectiveness of the front brake, Reuters reported.
The company, which has been expanding to North America and Europe at a fast pace since switching gear to manufacturing all EVs, has delayed vehicle delivery to customers in North America to late February, 2023.
VinFast has shipped about a thousand vehicles to the US last November, but the vehicles are held at port for software updates. The front brake torque in those shipped to the US will also be corrected immediately, according to Reuters citing the company.
The vehicles are not eligible for national subsidies because they were not built in the US. However, VinFast has secured land in North Carolina to start vehicle production in the US slated for July 2024.
Domestically, the carmaker delivered more than 4,000 EVs to customers in Vietnam in December last year, and more than half were the VF8 SUV.
