ASMedia Technology has announced the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) certification of its USB4 host controller. This achievement makes it the first Taiwanese company and the third globally to obtain certification for a host controller of this nature.

"ASMedia takes great pride in achieving recognition from the USB-IF, following in the footsteps of Intel and AMD," said company president Lin Che-wei.

After substantial work by ASMedia's devoted team, the company's USB4 host controller has received USB4 certification, Lin indicated. Following extensive work by ASMedia's dedicated staff, the company's USB4 host controller has been USB4 certified. The USB4 host controller, ASM4242, is certified for its maturity, dependability, and ability to switch between specifications such as PCI Express (PCIe), DisplayPort (DP), and USB4.

Lin disclosed that the entire USB4 testing procedure took roughly a year and was eventually perfected. After nearly a thousand tests at USB-IF-approved independent test labs, ASMedia passed hundreds more at the USB Platform Interoperability Lab. These tests addressed performance, logical specifications, compatibility, and stability, offering a comprehensive verification procedure for assessing product design quality.

ASMedia is well-prepared for the USB4 host controller and device certifications in 2024, with products ready to enter mass production. According to Lin, customer samples have been successfully made, and the company hopes to see products utilizing the ASM4242 on the market later this year.

According to market sources, ASMedia's 2024 growth prospects are positive, citing a rise in PC demand and quotations for USB4 chips that are twice as expensive as the previous generation. The company is also anticipated to start shipping USB4 storage devices during the latter part of this year.

ASMedia also stands to gain from the acquisition of Future Electronics by affiliate WT Microelectronics in 2024, in addition to the growth of its core business, the sources said. ASMedia owns roughly 20% of ASMedia.
