Staff writer
Staff writer
Application processor (AP) shipments for Chinese smartphones performed below expectation in the fourth quarter of 2023 as handset shipments already peaked in the previous quarter, and the volumes will go down further in the first quarter of 2024, but only by a small margin.
Abstract

DIGITIMES Research's findings show that application processor (AP) shipments for Chinese smartphones were sluggish during the traditional peak season in fourth-quarter 2023, with a sequential decrease of nearly 20%.

Shipments already had peaked in the previous quarter for handset brand vendors in preparation for the high-season demand during the second half of the year, as well as in response to competition from Huawei's return to the 5G market.

AP shipments for Chinese smartphones in the first quarter of 2024 are expected to fall further by 0.6% sequentially due to the arrival of the traditional off-season, with customers hardly replenishing in advance for the second quarter.
