Apple, since 2020, has achieved carbon neutrality through procuring 100% renewable energy and carbon offsetting measures. However, insiders within the industry highlight that more than 90% of Apple's emissions stem from its extensive supply chain. In response, Apple has instituted numerous collaborative initiatives with its suppliers to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.

Taiwanese PCB manufacturers, integral to Apple's supply chain, are strategically aligning themselves with ESG standards to meet customer demands and secure increased orders.

Unimicron Technology, a leading IC substrate producer, is making substantial investments, surpassing US$129 million, to establish hydrogen fuel cell power plants across its six major facilities, mirroring efforts seen in Europe and the US.

Unimicron Technology has underscored its commitment to energy efficiency and waste reduction across processes, equipment, and factory operations. This includes phasing out high-energy-consuming lighting and motors alongside measures to curtail water and electricity consumption, bolster waste management, and integrate green energy and storage solutions to optimize power utilization and mitigate peak demand.

Within the market, Apple's recent unveiling of Vision Pro incorporates materials sourced from Taiflex, a Taiwanese flexible copper clad laminate (FCCL) manufacturer, signaling Taiflex's low-carbon goal.

Taiflex has announced plans to transition its new facility in Thailand into an RE100 factory. Collaborating with Thailand's Enmax Group, Taiflex has inked agreements for solar system installation and green certificate procurement, facilitating green power certificate trading cooperation.

Taiflex emphasizes the significance of its 10-year commitment to procure 75 million kWh of green power certificates, aligning with both consumer and global expectations for sustainable energy practices. This pact advances Taiflex's RE100 goals and offers a tangible pathway toward carbon neutrality.

Backed by extensive experience in solar system design and construction, Enmax Group's proprietary real-time monitoring AI system ensures optimal solar power generation efficiency. With over 1,800 completed projects and a cumulative installed capacity exceeding 250 megawatts, Enmax Group exemplifies a robust player in sustainable energy solutions.

In pursuit of sustainability objectives, Taiflex has established a dedicated "Sustainability Development Center" to oversee sustainability initiatives across its subsidiary network. By 2030, the company aims to achieve comprehensive renewable energy integration, low carbon emissions, and circular economy principles, with further aspirations for RE100 compliance, carbon neutrality, and 100% circular economy adherence by 2050.

Taiflex has slated the commencement of mass production at its new Thailand facility for the second quarter of 2024, with a formal inauguration ceremony scheduled for May.
