Chi Mei EL (CMEL) is showcasing a 25-inch AMOLED panel at the FPD International 2008 in Japan. CMEL's 25-inch AMOLED panel is currently the largest OLED panel CMEL had produced, but the company has no intention to mass-produce its largest AMOLED panels yet.
The company indicated that they are using a 3.5G plant to produce the 25-inch AMOLED panel right now, and the economic efficiency for mass producing 25-inch AMOLED panels at a 3.5G plant is too low and the company estimates that mass production will not begin until 2010.
CMEL president Douglas Park indicated that demand for larger sized AMOLED panels has increased, and CMEL has shifted its shipment concentration from 2.4- to 2-8-inch panels to larger sizes of 3.4- and 4.3-inch panels and the company is seeing 70% yield this half of the year.
CMEL has successfully developed a 7.6-inch AMOLED and the company estimates mass productiion will commence in the fourth quarter with monthly production of 30,000 units and yield rate would be increase from 60% to 70% by year-end, Park added.
Kodak's latest digital photo frame is using CMEL's AMOLED, Park noted.
In addition, through working with DuPont, CMEL has adopted a printed oled technology.
