More than 80% of handsets from China vendors in the second half of 2014 will use touch panels from local makers, according to Digitimes Research.
China vendors will continue to ramp up production of low-priced handsets aimed at China and emerging markets, including India. The vendors will be reliant on low-cost solutions in order to keep end-pricing down and will look to local makers that have price advantages over other competitors in Asia.
Taiwan makers meanwhile aim to react to China vendors' demand through OGS and various touch-embedded solutions and estimate that 32.9% of their total handset touch panel shipments will go to China vendors in the fourth quarter.
Taiwan makers are only expected to supply about 23% of touch panels for use in China vendors' products during the fourth quarter as vendors focus on cheaper solutions for use in white-box units, added Digitimes Research.
