Taiwan-based GEM Services, dedicated to packaging MOSFET and other semiconductor power devices, is guardedly optimistic about its business prospects for 2022 as its new plant in China's Hefei will come online to turn out high value-added products later in the year.
At a recent online investors conference, GEM chairman CL Cheng said that capacity utilization at its plant in Shanghai is being partially affected by the city's lockdown, with its March revenues likely to fall slightly as a result.
But Cheng stressed the company's overall sales performance for 2022 will be bolstered by the commercialization of new capacity at its Hefei fab in the fourth quarter of the year. He disclosed the new capacity will focus on packaging higher-end automotive, industrial, 5G and third-generation semiconductors GaN and SiC chip solutions, which are all in strong demand.
GEM has reported its 2021 revenues rose 26.83% on year to a record high of NT$4.756 billion (US$166.47 million), and net profits also hit a new high of NT$858 million. Its January-February 2022 sales grew 24.74% on year reaching NT$858 million.
