Airoha Technology, a subsidiary of MediaTek specializing in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips, has started trading its shares on Taiwan's Emerging Stock Board (ESB) and is eyeing TWSE mainboard listing.
Based on revenue numbers released by Airoha, the company registered an accumulated revenue of NT$9.13 billion (US$306.9 million) for the first five months of 2022, an impressive 125.54% increase from the same period a year ago.
Airoha is most well-known for its single-chip solutions used in true wireless stereo (TWS) headphones, and it has reportedly cut into the supply chain of Sony, Beats and JBL. The company has acquired Audiowise Technology to expand its TWS market share. Besides TWS headphones, its chip solutions are also used in speakers, wireless microphones, hearing aids and other niche applications.
Airoha also supplies satellite communication chips for applications of different types of mobile devices, wearable devices, automotive electronics, shared transportation tools, and drones.
Meanwhile, its fixed network chip solutions can be used for VDSL (very high-speed digital subscriber line) and 10G PON applications. The company also supplies Ethernet controller chips and switch chip products.
Airoha has seen strong growth momentum for its fixed network chips recently thanks to rising demand for telecommunications, datacenters, and other infrastructure applications. The company has expressed optimism about its shipment prospects for the second half of 2022.
With handset sales expected to remain weak, MediaTek can rely on Airoha's stable growth in wireless transmission and fixed network chips to ease its operational pressure in the second half of the year. MediaTek is maintaining its 20% revenue growth target for the entire 2022, as it expects shipments for non-smartphone products, such as Wi-Fi, 5G CPE, and PMIC, to remain strong.
