Foxconn Technology has newly delivered its first batch of 15 Model T electric buses to Tainan Bus in southern Taiwan, marking the beginning of mass production of the vehicle developed by its subsidiary Foxtron Vehicle Technologies.
According to Foxconn, Model T is the first made-in-Taiwan electric bus in terms of conception, design and manufacturing, with 65% of its components supplied by members of the company-initiated MIH alliance. The bus meets the standards of the US Transportation Security Administration and has passed a 200,000km endurance test by Taiwan's Automotive Research & Testing Center (ARTC).
With a battery range of over 240kms, the buses are equipped with ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) that can detect the distance in front of the vehicle, blind point of driving vision, lane deviation, and improper driving behaviors.
According to Tainan City Government, the 15 Model T electric buses will start to serve three urban routes by the end of the year.
Foxconn in March this year delivered its first unit of Model T to Kaohsiung Bus under SanDi Properties Group, serving a 14km route between a high-speed rail station and a mall.
The group's another subsidiary SanDi Energy is now the sole distributor of the Model T electric buses, and has so far landed sales orders for nearly 150 units to be delivered gradually.
Foxconn and SanDi are expected to enter closer cooperation in the development of new energy battery cells and energy storage services in Taiwan.
