Within the Taiwan EV supply chain's five major sectors including components and end charging pile products, there are around 20 firms running businesses such as exporting products to markets abroad and providing services locally and they are expected to see enormous business opportunities in the upcoming years thanks to governments worldwide pushing to end gasoline car sales, according to DIGITIMES Research's latest study on the EV charging pile industry.
Despite International Energy Agency's (IEA) forecast that global electric vehicle (EV) stock will reach almost 350 million units by 2030, the quantity of charging piles will remain seriously behind, according to DIGITIMES Research's observation.
As governments around the globe are pushing keenly infrastructure for EV charging facilities and instituting EV development objectives, Taiwan also set the target of having all new scooters and passenger cars to be powered by electricity by 2040.
Among the 20 Taiwan-based firms in the EV charging sector, many are charging equipment suppliers or local charging service partners to automakers. The charging equipment suppliers include Delta, Fortune and LiteOn, while the service operators include Chung-Hsin Electric and Machinery (CHEM) and YES Energy, the study shows.
The US and EU are set to ban sales of new gasoline vehicles starting in 2035 and have been actively promoting the establishment of charging piles. China, Japan and South Korea also have room for more charging piles nationwide in the next few years. Taiwan is planning to deploy a total of 6,500 public charging piles locally by 2025 to satisfy the market's EV charging demand.
The charging equipment suppliers are foraying into overseas markets with large EV sales, making them better positioned to obtain more orders. The charging service operators engage in partnerships with automotive brands to deliver diverse and innovative services locally.
