AMD has introduced the Ryzen PRO 7040 series of mobile processors for high-end Windows 11 business laptops and mobile workstations, as well as the Ryzen PRO 7000 series of desktop processors for professional desktop computer users.

The new AMD Ryzen PRO 7040 series mobile processors bring advanced "Zen 4" performance and a dedicated Ryzen AI engine to select Windows 11 business laptops from leading PC manufacturers such as HP and Lenovo, while the Ryzen PRO 7000 series desktop processors provide industry-leading performance and efficiency for the future of work, according to the company.

Built on 4nm technology and featuring up to eight "Zen 4" cores and RDNA 3 integrated graphics, the AMD Ryzen PRO 7040 series processors deliver exceptional levels of performance and efficiency for business applications, with the Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U processor providing an average 17% performance boost over the x86 competition. Compared to an Apple M2 Pro processor, the Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U processor offers up to 18% greater CPU performance and up to 15% longer battery life during video conferencing, AMD claimed.

On select AMD Ryzen PRO 7040 Series processors, Ryzen AI, the world's first integrated AI engine on an x86 processor, is available. This AI engine revolutionizes business laptops by enabling premium AI experiences. It provides immersive collaboration experiences on Microsoft Teams and other industry-leading video conferencing platforms. In the future, it is anticipated to offer distinct advantages in the areas of next-generation collaboration, creation, productivity, predictive user interface, and AI-powered security features. Ryzen AI helps select laptops prepare for the future of AI-based work.

"The new Ryzen PRO 7040 Series pairs incredible performance and battery life to meet the needs of today's workforce, while also offering a new dedicated AI engine on select models, to help meet the demands of the AI transformation," said Matthew Unangst, senior director of commercial client and workstation for AMD.

Also in AMD's statement, Pavan Davuluri, corporate VP of Windows silicon and system integration for Microsoft, noted that "Microsoft and AMD have worked closely to enable Ryzen AI in prominent Windows features like Windows Studio Effects. We truly believe that AI is going to reinvent how our customers do everything on Windows and the introduction of these Ryzen AI technology-enabled business laptops is the next step toward unlocking a superior experience."

The AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U processor provides state-of-the-art productivity and virtual collaboration, delivering up to 29% more performance per watt than the competition while simultaneously running the Procyon Overall benchmark and Microsoft Teams. Additionally, the Ryzen PRO 7840U processor offers up to 70% longer battery life than the competition during Microsoft Teams videoconferencing, AMD indicated.

The new Ryzen PRO 7000 Series processors feature up to 12 "Zen 4" cores with up to 5.4 GHz boost frequency, supported by RDNA 2-based integrated graphics to deliver leading performance for professional workloads, including up to a 48% increase on a Ryzen 5 PRO 7645 processor in PCMark 10 productivity and creation workloads compared to the competition. Built on the AMD Socket AM5 platform, these processors offer support for the latest technologies, such as DDR5 memory, up to PCIe 5.0 storage, and ultra-fast WiFi 6E, bringing a new level of responsiveness, speed, and efficiency to professionals. AMD Ryzen processors with PRO technologies are equipped with a complete suite of enterprise-grade manageability and security features to ensure PCs perform reliably, with security features enabling accelerated productivity and enhanced collaboration.

Beginning this month (June 2023), enterprise customers will be able to purchase Ryzen PRO processor-based systems from top PC vendors including HP and Lenovo, according to AMD.
