According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global semiconductor sales totaled US$47.6 billion in January 2024, up 15.2% from US$41.3 billion in January 2023 but down 2.1% from US$48.7 billion in December 2023.
"The global semiconductor market started the new year strong, with worldwide sales increasing year-to-year by the largest percentage since May 2022," said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. "Market growth is projected to continue over the remainder of the year, with annual sales forecast to increase by double-digits in 2024 compared to 2023."
The most recent forecast from World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) indicates that semiconductor sales will rebound significantly in 2024, increasing by 13.1%.
Regionally, January sales increased year-on-year in China (26.6%), the Americas (20.3%), and Asia Pacific/All other (12.8%), but decreased in Japan (-6.4%) and Europe (-1.4%). Europe was the sole regional market to experience yearly growth in semiconductor sales for 2023, SIA said based on its findings for the year. Global semiconductor sales totaled $526.8 billion in 2023, representing an 8.2% decrease from the industry's all-time high of $574.1 billion in 2022.
