According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global semiconductor sales totaled US$46.4 billion in April 2024, up 15.8% from US$40.1 billion a year earlier.
The chip sales in April represent a slight increase of 1.1% compared with US$45.9 billion in March.
Regionally, year-to-year sales in April increased 32.4% in the Americas, 23.4% in China, and 11.1% in Asia Pacific/All Other, but decreased 7% in Europe and 7.8% in Japan. Month-to-month sales in April grew 4.2% in the Americas, 2.4% in Japan, and 0.2% in China (0.2%), but slipped 0.5% in Asia Pacific/All Other and 0.8% in Europe.
"The global semiconductor industry posted double-digit sales increases on a year-to-year basis during each month of 2024, and worldwide sales in April increased on a month-to-month basis for the first time this year, indicating positive market momentum as we approach the middle of the year," said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO.
"Additionally, the latest industry forecast projects strong annual growth in 2024, led by sales to the Americas market, which is expected to grow by more than 25% this year," Neuffer noted.
A new WSTS industry forecast—endorsed by SIA—projects annual global sales will climb 16% in 2024 and another 12.5% in 2025. The forecast projects the industry's worldwide sales will be US$611.2 billion in 2024, which would be the industry's highest-ever annual sales total, and reach US$687.4 billion in 2025.
