XPeng has unveiled the G7, its first all-new model of 2025—an AI-centric SUV that represents both a technological milestone and a strategic pillar in the company's product roadmap. Positioned as one of XPeng's most competitive offerings to date, the G7 is expected to sharpen the company's edge in China's rapidly intensifying electric vehicle market.
Billed as the world's first AI-powered vehicle with Level 3 compute capabilities, the G7 comes in two variants: the Max edition with dual Nvidia Orin-X chips, and the Ultra edition, which debuts XPeng's self-designed Turing AI chip across three units. Pre-orders have opened with pricing starting at CNY235,800 (US$32,750).
Turing AI chip delivers breakthrough performance
The G7 Ultra debuts XPeng's proprietary Turing AI chip, each featuring a 40-core processor, dual NPUs, and a neural network-optimized architecture. Combined, the three chips deliver 2200 TOPS—triple the compute of current industry flagships, which typically range from 80 to 700 TOPS, according to ICsmart and CnEVPost.
One Turing chip equals the performance of three Orin-X chips and supports on-device inference for AI models with up to 30 billion parameters, pushing the frontier of in-vehicle intelligence.
At launch, CEO He Xiaopeng said the industry has stalled in the Level 2 era, and it's time to advance. As per East Money, he noted that true Level 3 autonomy requires 2000+ TOPS of local compute and deployment of both VLA and VLM models. The G7 meets the compute threshold but lacks the hardware redundancy and regulatory certification for full Level 3 status.
The Turing trio powers both autonomous driving and the smart cockpit. Paired with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8295P, the in-cabin AI compute is 26 times higher than rival flagships. He emphasized XPeng's goal to localize all processing, reducing dependence on the cloud.
Edge intelligence powered by dual-brain architecture
XPeng's software introduces a "dual-brain" architecture using VLA-OL models to emulate human cognitive functions. This enables real-time, human-like decision-making in complex scenarios like obstacle avoidance and emergency response, with claimed performance over ten times better than current flagship systems.
The G7 also debuts the VLM visual model as its central AI controller, managing driving, navigation, and cabin systems. VLM supports local voice interaction, proactive services, and multilingual functions—entirely cloud-free.
According to Sina, XPeng sees on-device inference as key to eliminating latency and enabling consistent autonomous performance globally, laying the groundwork for future Level 4 and Level 5 capabilities.
Premium design meets practical innovation
The G7 builds on the P7+ design language, featuring split headlamps, a bold blacked-out grille, and a 2.17 square meter panoramic sunroof with dual-layer LOW-E glass blocking 99.9% of UV rays.
It comes in six exterior colors and four interior themes. Inside, next-generation "CloudSense" seats offer massage, ventilation, memory, and full electronic adjustment. Storage includes an 819-liter trunk expandable to 2,277 liters, plus 39 interior compartments.
Co-developed with Huawei, the AR-HUD projects an 87-inch virtual display onto the windshield, delivering lane-level AR navigation, speed, and driver-assist data while resolving traditional HUD issues like glare and visibility.
The G7 uses a single motor delivering 218kW and a top speed of 202 kilometers per hour, powered by an LFP battery optimized for safety and efficiency.
Strong market reception fuels growth ambitions
XPeng's Turing chip strategy reduces dependency on generic processors while lowering system complexity and cost, though large-scale production remains a challenge.
Demand for the G7 has been strong, with over 10,000 pre-orders placed within 46 minutes of launch, according to East Money.
The launch supports XPeng's 2025 sales goal of 380,000 units, up from 190,068 in 2024. With 162,578 units delivered from January to May 2025, up 293% year-over-year, the company is on pace. May marked its seventh straight month of over 30,000 deliveries.
XPeng also refreshed its G6 and G9 models in March 2025 and launched an updated X9 MPV in April 2025. A new P7 sedan targeting the CNY300,000 segment is due in the third quarter of 2025, positioning the G7 as a catalyst in what may be a breakout year.
