The end of the Tim Cook era at Apple
After a 15-year tenure, Apple CEO Tim Cook is stepping down on September 1, 2026, and handing the reins to hardware veteran John Ternus.
Apple has announced that John Ternus will become CEO on September 1, 2026, marking the end of Tim Cook’s 15-year tenure. Cook will transition to Executive Chairman, shifting his focus to global policy while Ternus, a 25-year hardware veteran, takes the lead.

Ternus will inherit Apple amidst a series of serious challenges, including the increasing importance of AI, rising memory prices, and more volatile-than-ever US-China geopolitics.
