Denmark-based Orsted has started construction on two offshore wind farms 35-60km from the shore of Taiwan's Changhua County, with completion scheduled for 2022.
The two wind farms have total installation capacity of 900MW and Orsted will lay submarine cables, install substations and underwater foundations in 2021, and install wind turbines in 2022, Orsted Taiwan said.
Orsted has begun preparation work for laying submarine cables and underwater foundations, Orsted Taiwan noted.
Orsted has completed civil engineering work for main buildings of two onshore substations as well as upgrade work of hinterland adjacent to Wharves 36 and 37 at Taichung Harbor, with the land used to store components used in development of the two offshore wind farms.
The Taiwan government aims to complete offshore wind farms totaling 5.7GW in 2025.
