Taiwan's flexible PCB (FPCB) suppliers Zhen Ding Technology and Flexium Interconnect are expected to post robust sales for second-quarter 2021, mainly bolstered by shipments to Apple for non-handset applications, according to industry sources.

Zhen Ding saw its May revenues grow 22.71% on year to NT$9.933 billion (US$359.16 billion) on shipments of miniLED backlighting boards for new MacBook and iPad series, the sources said. Its January-May revenues rose 31.81% on year reaching NT$46.656 billion, despite a slowdown in FPCB shipments for iPhone applications, the sources said.

Zhen Ding has resumed normal shipments of miniLED backlighting boards after significantly improving its yield rates for the new offering, the sources said. The company is expected to further boost its capacity utilization with even higher yield rates in the second half of the year, the sources continued.

Flexium's May revenues increased 0.32% sequentially and 7.08% on year reaching NT$2.399 billion, a record high for the same month, and its January-May revenues expanded 31.65% on year to NT$11.921 billion, mainly bolstered by its shipments of LCP (liquid crystal polymer) antenna boards for non-handset applications.

Growing shipments to Apple for applications other than those for iPhones will enable Zhen Ding and Flexium to ramp up their sales quarter by quarter, breaking the past low-season pattern for the second quarter, the sources said, adding that their ASPs for non-handset shipments will also rise along with specs upgrades required by Apple.

Another FPCB maker Career Technology saw May revenues slip 10.81% on month and 26.75% on year to NT$930 million, due partly to lack of shipments to Apple for non-handset applications though the company is in the supply chain of iPhones, the sources said. Its January-May revenues rose 12.93% on year to NT$6.066 billion.
