Taiwan-based Episil Precision, dedicated to the production of epitaxial Si, SiC and GaN wafers, has seen its revenues grow quarter by quarter since the third quarter of 2020, with automotive applications contributing the highest ratio, at 30%, to its revenues, according to company chairman CH Hsu.

In particular, Hsu stressed, the company will see its fourth-quarter 2021 revenues from SiC epi-wafer shipments alone shoot up 200% sequentially due to strong demand for automotive applications.

This, coupled with a sequential increase of over 80% in sales of GaN and other product lines, will send the company's total 2021 revenues growing 20-25% on year, Hsu continued.

Hsu also noted that his company has seen clear order visibility through at least the first half of 2022 for most of its product lines, with SiC components for EV charging poles even seeing orders fully placed through the end of next year and likely to double in revenue contribution.

To meet ever-stronger market demand for 5G, automotive and metaverse applications, Episil has disclosed plans to invest US$40-50 million to sharply increase capacity for SiC and GaN epi-wafers in the next 2-3 years.
