PChome Online, the largest online shopping service operator in Taiwan, has started leveraging cloud computing services since three to four quarters ago in order to hike operational efficiency, according to company president and CEO Kevin Tsai.
PChome now uses cloud computing for over half of its services, Tsai said, adding PChome will soon enhance cloud-based operation in 2022 by starting trial application of VR and other innovative technologies to operations.
PChome currently has seven logistics facilities, five warehouses and 11 distribution centers to support its e-commerce operation in the Taiwan market.
PChome has rented spaces of a large logistics building constructed by Chunghwa Post near the Taoyuan High-speed Rail Station in northern Taiwan, and will use it to house its AI-based automated logistics center, Tsai indicated. The logistics center will gradually come into operation beginning October 2022, and will increase PChome's total logistics capacity in floor area by 50% and total parcel processing capacity by 100%, Tsai said.
Consumer electronics take up about 70% of merchandise items sold through PChome at present, and PChome is optimistic about business in second-half 2022, said Tsai.
PChome has reported consolidated revenues of NT$3.908 billion for May, increasing 14.57% sequentially but decreasing 3.15% on year, and those of NT$19.028 billion for January-May grew 0.49% on year.
