VinFast, a Vietnam-based EV maker rapidly expanding its global presence, announced a delay in its operation for its manufacturing facility in North America, according to an official statement.
The company was building a US$4 billion factory in North Carolina that was originally scheduled to open in 2025. However, VinFast has now announced that it is delaying the opening to 2028.
Madam Thuy Le, chairperson of the board of directors of VinFast, stated, that the company adopted a more prudent outlook that is carefully calibrated to near-term headwinds, taking into full consideration the realities of market volatility and potential challenges.
In the meantime, according to the statement, the EV maker delivered 12,058 vehicles in the second quarter of 2024, a 24% increase from the previous quarter and a 26% rise compared to the same period last year. In the first half of 2024, VinFast delivered 21,747 vehicles, showing a substantial 92% growth compared to the first half of 2023.
Despite these positive results, VinFast acknowledges economic challenges and uncertainties in global macroeconomies and the EV sector. As a result, the company has adjusted its outlook for 2024 and now expects to deliver approximately 80,000 electric vehicles for the year.
Despite the projection reflecting a significant increase from the 34,855 vehicles delivered in 2023, a year-over-year growth of 2.3 times, the figure is down from the planned target of 100,000 deliveries, reports Reuters.
