Rivals LG and Samsung said they will cooperate on a jointly developed mobile DTV broadcast system for the North American technology standard. The two companies had been engaged in a fierce contest to have their rival mobile DTV systems accepted for the US standard next year. The cooperative relationship is also expected to give the resulting broadcasting system a stronger voice along side other mobile video broadcast systems, such as Qualcomm's MediaFLO, which is currently used to carry premium video content through supporting carriers.

Some of the world's top solar power companies have teamed up to launch the first large-scale recycling system for solar panels in Europe, to stay one step ahead of regulators by showing an industry-led scheme can work. The goal is to set up a voluntary take-back system for solar modules by the end of 2008, the group handling the project said.

Google will become the default search provider and preferred application provider for Clearwire's new retail product and the default provider of Web and local search for mobile phones from Sprint, which will preload Google Maps for Mobile, Gmail and YouTube. Moreover, Google's Android mobile operating system could get a bump from the deal, with Clearwire offering Android on its voice and data devices down the road.

IPCS said Monday that three of its subsidiaries filed suit against Sprint Nextel, alleging that Sprint Nextel's recently announced WiMAX transaction with Clearwire would breach the exclusivity provisions of iPCS's affiliation agreements with Sprint Nextel.
