HDI PCB specialist Compeq Manufacturing is poised to enjoy a particularly strong first quarter of 2022, thanks to improvement in logic chip shortages and a pull-in of customer orders, according to market sources.

A ramp-up in shipments for low-orbit satellites and consumer electronics applications will buoy Compeq's sales performance in the first quarter, said the sources. The HDI PCB maker has also kicked off shipments for a new smartphone by a US brand during the quarter, the sources indicated.

Compeq expressed previously optimism about high-end HDI PCB demand in 2022, as its shipments for low-orbit satellites will double and contribute 6-8% to company revenue compared with 3-4% in 2021.

Compeq reported revenue climbed 31.7% from a year earlier to NT$5.06 billion (US$177.5 million) in February 2022. Revenue for the first two months of the year totaled NT$11.46 billion, rising 29% from the same period in 2021.

Compeq saw its revenue rise 12.4% sequentially and 8.9% on year to a record high of NT$19.74 billion in the fourth quarter of 2021. Revenue for the year came to NT$63.05 billion, an annual high.

In addition, Compeq has set its capex this year at about NT$8 billion, which will be utilized mainly for capacity expansions at its factory sites in Chongqing and Huizhou, China. The additional output is scheduled to come online in the second and third quarters of 2022.
