The Ukraine-Russia war remains stalemated, but the Middle East situation has stabilized without further deterioration and as a result, global market demand has gradually increased.
According to DIGITIMES Research, global smartphone shipments in the second quarter of 2024 reached 278.2 million units, with a year-on-year growth rate of 9.9% due to the low comparison base in the same period in 2023. It is estimated that the total shipments for the second half of 2024 will only grow by 1.7% on year, as the comparison base in 2023 was relatively high.
Compared with the estimations in May, DIGITIMES Research has revised global smartphone shipments for the full year of 2024 to 1.18 billion units, an upward revision of 13 million units. The upward revision was mainly due to Apple's better-than-expected shipments in the second quarter, while Apple and some Chinese vendors are also expected to perform stronger than DIGITIMES Research originally anticipated.
