MEMS microphone maker Zilltek Technology, which saw its 2021 revenue climb 44% on year, is expected to enjoy another year of strong revenue growth in 2022 buoyed by strong demand for devices enabling human-computer interactions, according to the Taiwan-based company.
Thanks to the stay-at-home economy, demand for MEMS microphone products and other IC products skyrocketed in 2021. Although notebook demand is unlikely to increase in 2022, strong demand for devices enabling human-computer interactions is expected to bring up the penetration rate of digital microphones in the market.
Industry observers expect Zilltek to receive more orders for its digital microphones in 2022 than in 2021. Pointing out that analog microphones are slowly being replaced by their digital counterparts, Zilltek said sound control has become a key feature for more and more electronics products and will generate long-term business opportunities for digital microphone ICs.
Zilltek expects its notebook shipment to stay flat and digital microphone shipment to remain high in 2022. It is also seeing expansion opportunity for its power management IC (PMIC) business, which could account for more than 10% of its total revenue for the year.
Although it is planning to expand production capability in 2022, the company said its clients' orders are still outweighing the supply of its products. As a result, prices for its PMICs and digital microphones are unlikely to drop as they did in previous years, it explained.
Zilltek posted consolidated revenues of NT$214 million (US$7.73 million) for December 2021, increasing 11.31% on year, and consolidated revenues of NT$2.74 billion for 2021, rising 44% on year.
