IC substrate and PCB maker Unimicron Technology enjoyed another month of record-high revenue in August, driven by robust orders and rising ASPs.
Unimicron's record August revenues of NT$9.571 billion (US$345.96 million), represented a sequential and on-year growth of 4.96% and 27.99%, respectively. Its January-August sales soared 12.46% to NT$64.543 billion, also a new high for the period.
Besides sustaining full capacity utilization for ABF substrates to meet strong customer demand for processing HPC, server, and networking chips, the company has also seen its BT substrate capacity fully booked so far this year thanks to persistently brisk demand for processing handset APs as well as SiP and AiP modules, according to industry sources.
The ASPs for its IC substrates continue to rise further as higher substrate specs are required to support the production of new offerings by clients in the peak season, the sources said.
Meanwhile, Unimicron has also seen its capacity utilization for HDI boards ramp up to well over 90%, driven by particularly brisk application demand for handsets, notebooks, and tablets in the third quarter, the sources continued.
So far this year, the company has mainly relied on adjusting its product portfolios and removing manufacturing bottlenecks at its existing production lines to drive its shipment and revenue gains, it has not rolled out large new capacity over the past months, the sources indicated.
Unimicron's new IC substrate plant in Yangmei, northern Taiwan is set to start commercial runs in 2022 and reach full capacity in 2023, which is expected to significantly power its revenue gains in the next few years, sources added.
